About UsIn 2010 Assistant State Secretary Lawrence Myers was tasked with resurrecting five local NAACP chapters in Texas, including Unit #6304 in Conroe. Through his commitment he succeeded in recruiting 60 enthusiastic citizens as members of the revived unit.
Our first president in 2010 was Mr. Joel Porter, an oil industry retiree, living in Montgomery, Texas. Other officers and committees developed according to the national NAACP umbrella flow chart. During the past eight years, we have pursued the national and state NAACP goals and initiatives: promoting voter awareness and registration, working with political organizations and candidates to present their platforms to the community, providing a venue for financial planning and management, participating in College Prep Workshops, presenting scholarships to graduating seniors in Montgomery County, sharing resources with community members, and assisting with legal redress and criminal justice issues. In 2017, we joined the Montgomery County Homeless Coalition and participate in the "Point in Time" count of homeless people in the community. You can join us today and make a difference in your community. |
